Think breast implants are safe?

Israeli model Orit Fox was posing with a snake for a radio show when the reptile suddenly sunk its fangs into her left breast. The model was treated at a hospital and is okay, but the snake later died of silicone poisoning.

STOMPer SnakeEyes sent in the video and says:

"This video has been going the rounds on Facebook.

"Based on the principle of schadenfreude, naturally some of us will think the video is amusing.

"However, it was found out that the snake later died of silicone poisoning.

"How could a poisonous snake die from something that is seemingly safe and done by so many around the world?

"Ladies, before you get a boob job, please think twice.

"It may seem safe, but is quite toxic.

"On another note, perhaps a new 'armour' could be made from silicone when people go wandering into jungles with poisonous snakes..."

Snake dies after biting silicone breast

Indo-Asian News Service, Updated: March 15, 2011 13:55 IST

London:  A huge snake died of silicone poisoning after it bit the enhanced breast of a model during a photoshoot.

Israeli Orit Fox was at a photoshoot in Tel Aviv in which she alluringly used the boa constrictor. The snake suddenly lunged at her and bit her breast, the Daily Mail reported Monday.

Fox was initially comfortable with the snake and wrapped it around her legs, waist and neck.

She then licked the snake, loosening the grip on its neck. The snake then sank its fangs into her left breast.

The model screamed for help, and an assistant struggled to pull off the determined snake. After a few seconds, the snake released its grip.

Though Fox needed a tetanus shot in the hospital, it was the snake which came off worse as it died from silicone poisoning.

Nail fungus

Nail fungus

Nail fungus is a fungal infection in one or more of your nails. An infection with nail fungus may begin as a white or yellow spot under the tip of your fingernail or toenail. As the nail fungus spreads deeper into your nail, it may cause your nail to discolor, thicken and develop crumbling edges — an unsightly and potentially painful problem.
An infection with nail fungus may be difficult to treat, and it may recur. But medications are available to help clear up nail fungus.

There are different classifications of nail fungus — depending on type of fungus and manifestation — which may have somewhat different signs and symptoms. In general, however, you may have a nail fungal infection — also called onychomycosis (on-i-ko-mi-KO-sis) — if one or more of your nails are:
  • Thickened
  • Brittle, crumbly or ragged
  • Distorted in shape
  • Dull, with no luster or shine
  • A dark color, caused by debris building up under your nail
Infected nails also may separate from the nail bed, a condition called onycholysis. You may feel pain in your toes or fingertips and detect a slightly foul odor.

When to see a doctor
Once a nail fungal infection begins, it can persist indefinitely if not treated. See your doctor at the first sign of nail fungus, which is often a tiny white or yellow spot under the tip of your nail.

Nail fungal infections are typically caused by a fungus that belongs to a group of fungi called dermatophytes. But yeasts and molds also can be responsible for nail fungal infections.
What are fungi?
Fungi are microscopic organisms that don't need sunlight to survive. Some fungi have beneficial uses, while others cause illness and infection.
All of these microscopic organisms:
  • Live in warm, moist environments, including swimming pools and showers
  • Can invade your skin through tiny visible or invisible cuts or through a small separation between your nail and nail bed
  • Cause problems only if your nails are continually exposed to warmth and moisture — conditions perfect for the growth and spread of fungi
Toenails vs. fingernails
Nail fungus occurs more in toenails than in fingernails.
  • Toenails often are confined in a dark, warm, moist environment inside your shoes — where fungi can thrive.
  • Diminished blood circulation to the toes as compared with the fingers makes it harder for your body's immune system to detect and eliminate the infection.
RISK FACTORS

Aging is the most common risk factor for nail fungus for several reasons, including:
  • Diminished blood circulation
  • More years of exposure to fungi
  • Nails may grow more slowly and thicken with age, making them more susceptible to infection
Nail fungus tends to affect men more often than it does women, particularly those with a family history of this infection.
Other factors that can increase your risk of developing nail fungus include:
  • Perspiring heavily
  • Working in a humid or moist environment
  • Having the skin condition psoriasis
  • Wearing socks and shoes that hinder ventilation and don't absorb perspiration
  • Walking barefoot in damp public places, such as swimming pools, gyms and shower roomsHaving diabetes, circulation problems or a weakened immune system
Nail fungus can be painful and may cause permanent damage to your nails. It also may lead to other serious infections that can spread beyond your feet if you have a suppressed immune system due to medication, diabetes or other conditions.
Fungal infections of the nail pose the most serious health risk for people with diabetes and for those with weakened immune systems, such as people with leukemia or AIDS or organ transplant recipients.
If you have diabetes, your blood circulation and the nerve supply to your feet can become impaired. You're also at greater risk for cellulitis, a potentially serious bacterial skin infection. Therefore, any relatively minor injury to your feet — including a nail fungal infection — can lead to a more serious complication, requiring timely medical care. See your doctor immediately if you suspect nail fungus.

You're likely to start by seeing your family doctor or a general practitioner. However, in some cases when you call to set up an appointment, you may be referred immediately to either a doctor who specializes in skin conditions (dermatologist) or one who specializes in foot conditions (podiatrist).
To make the most of your time with your doctor, it's good to prepare for your appointment.
What you can do
  • Write down any symptoms you're experiencing, including any that may seem unrelated to the reason for which you scheduled the appointment.
  • Write down key personal information, including any major stresses or recent life changes.
  • Make a list of all medications, vitamins and supplements you're taking.
  • Write down questions to ask your doctor.
For nail fungus, your questions might include:
  • What is likely causing my symptoms or condition?
  • Are there other possible causes for my symptoms or condition?
  • What tests do I need?
  • What is the best course of action?
  • What are the alternatives to the primary approach you're suggesting?
  • I have other health conditions. How can I best manage them together?
  • Is there a generic alternative to the medicine you're prescribing?
  • Are there brochures or other printed material that I can take home? Are there websites you recommend?
Don't hesitate to ask any other questions you have.

Your doctor will likely examine your nails first. To test for fungi, your doctor may scrape some debris from under your nail for analysis.
The debris can be examined under a microscope or cultured in a lab to identify what's causing the infection. Other conditions, such as psoriasis, can mimic a fungal infection of the nail. Microorganisms, including yeast and bacteria, also can infect nails. Knowing the cause of your infection helps determine the best course of treatment.

  • Having athlete's foot (tinea pedis)
  • Having a minor skin or nail injury, a damaged nail, or another infection
Nail fungus can be difficult to treat, and repeat infections are common. Over-the-counter antifungal nail creams and ointments are available, but they aren't very effective. If you have athlete's foot as well as nail fungus, you should treat the athlete's foot with topical medication and keep your feet clean and dry.
Oral medications
To treat nail fungus, your doctor may prescribe an oral antifungal medication. Studies have shown the most effective treatments to be terbinafine (Lamisil) and itraconazole (Sporanox).
Your doctor is likely to recommend oral medication if you:
  • Have diabetes or other risk factors for cellulitis
  • Have a history of cellulitis
  • Are experiencing pain or discomfort from your nail infection
Treatments

These medications help a new nail grow free of infection, slowly replacing the infected portion of your nail. You typically take these medications for six to 12 weeks, but you won't see the end result of treatment until the nail grows back completely. It may take four months or longer to eliminate an infection. Recurrent infections are possible, especially if you continue to expose your nails to warm, moist conditions.
Antifungal drugs may cause side effects ranging from skin rashes to liver damage. Doctors may not recommend them for people with liver disease or congestive heart failure or for those taking certain medications.

Other treatment options
Your doctor may also suggest these nail fungus treatments:
  • Antifungal lacquer. If you have a mild to moderate infection of nail fungus, your doctor may prefer to prescribe an antifungal nail polish called ciclopirox (Penlac). You paint it on your infected nails and surrounding skin once a day. After seven days, you wipe the piled-on layers clean with alcohol and begin fresh applications. Daily use of Penlac for about one year has been shown to help clear up some nail fungal infections.
  • Topical medications. Your doctor may also opt for other topical antifungal medications. You may be advised to use these creams with an over-the-counter lotion containing urea to help speed up absorption. Topical medications usually don't cure nail fungus, but they may be used with oral medications. Your doctor may file the surface of your nail (debridement) to lessen the amount of infected nail to treat and possibly make the topical medication more effective.
  • Surgery. If your nail infection is severe or extremely painful, your doctor may suggest removing your nail. A new nail will usually grow in its place, though it will come in slowly and may take as long as a year to grow back completely. Sometimes surgery is used in combination with ciclopirox to treat the nail bed.
Sometimes, because current treatments can take a long time to work and aren't always effective, people turn to home remedies. Two remedies purported to help nail fungus are vinegar and Vicks VapoRub.
  • Vinegar. While there's no direct evidence that a vinegar soak can cure nail fungus, some studies have shown that it can inhibit the growth of certain bacteria. Experts suggest soaking your feet for 15 to 20 minutes in a mixture of 1 part vinegar to 2 parts warm water. Be sure to rinse well and pat your feet dry when you're done. You can soak your feet like this daily. But if your skin becomes irritated, try soaking only two to three times a week.
  • Vicks VapoRub. As with vinegar, there have been no controlled clinical trials to assess the effectiveness of Vicks VapoRub on nail fungus, but there have been numerous anecdotal reports that it works. There's no consensus on how often to apply this product, so check with your doctor before using it on your nails.
Treating nail fungus with a laser or photodynamic therapy — intense light irradiates the nail after it's been treated with an acid — may also be successful. However, this new treatment may not be available everywhere.

Prevention
By Mayo Clinic staff
To help prevent nail fungus and reduce recurrent infections, practice good hand and foot hygiene.
  • Keep your nails short, dry and clean. Trim nails straight across and file down thickened areas. Thoroughly dry your hands and feet, including between your toes, after bathing.
  • Wear appropriate socks. Synthetic socks that wick away moisture may keep your feet dryer than do cotton or wool socks (you can also wear synthetic socks underneath other socks). Change them often, especially if your feet sweat excessively. Take your shoes off occasionally during the day and after exercise. Alternate closed-toe shoes with open-toe shoes.
  • Use an antifungal spray or powder. Spray or sprinkle your feet and the insides of your shoes.
  • Wear rubber gloves. This protects your hands from overexposure to water. Between uses, turn the rubber gloves inside out to dry.
  • Don't trim or pick at the skin around your nails. This may give germs access to your skin and nails.
  • Don't go barefoot in public places. Wear shoes around public pools, showers and locker rooms.
  • Choose a reputable manicure and pedicure salon. Make sure the salon sterilizes its instruments. Better yet, bring your own.
  • Give up nail polish and artificial nails. Although it may be tempting to hide nail fungal infections under a coat of pretty pink polish, this can trap unwanted moisture and worsen the infection.
  • Wash your hands after touching an infected nail. Nail fungus can spread from nail to nail.

13 Dangerous (and Stupid) Ways Teens Get High

13 Dangerous (and Stupid) Ways Teens Get High Posted: May 31st, 2012 Potentially lethal activities kids do that every parent and educator must know
Some things never change: teens have always been risk takers, thrill seekers and want to fit in. But oh the “creative” ways adolescents try to get high these days… like soaking tampons with liquor and inserting them, infusing alcohol into gummy bears and popping them anyplace and anytime, and drinking hand sanitizer.

They even have clever ways to store their stash these days like in sandals that come with a handy small canteen and bottle opener on the side, in small flashlights or emptied marking pen holders. But some kid crazes are flat-out dangerous: pouring Vodka into your eye (which could burn your cornea or even cause blindness) or even lethal such as mixing Robitussin DM cough syrup with Sprite and a Jolly Rancher.

Many items kids use are right in your home from hairspray, whipped cream, deodorant, glue, nail polish remover, and even cleaning spray. Youtube videos are plentiful and not only sensationalize the craze but provide kids with play-by-play directions.

Many of these crazes are not new, some are trending in only certain geographic areas, and a few are just mind-boggling. Regardless, do let your teen know you’re aware of these activities. While there are no guarantees, studies show that when teens know they’re being monitored, their risky behaviors often decrease. Meanwhile, keep repeating this mantra to your kid over and over:

“Getting high – no matter how you do it – has health risks that could be permanent. There are “no take backs.” Here are 13 dangerous ways kids and teens are getting high that every parent and educator needs to know. Vodka Eyeballing or Eyeballing Let’s start with the unbelievable craze .. “I can’t believe a kid would do that”…but they do. It’s called eyeballing and it’s when a teen holds a vodka bottle to his eye and pours the alcohol directly into the eye.

The alcohol is quickly absorbed and enters the bloodstream quickly (through the veins at the back of the eye). It gives teens a fast high and disguises the smell of the alcohol. Dangers: The alcohol could scar and burn the cornea and cause blindness. Purple Drinks or Purple Drank (Sizzurp, Drank, Barre, Purple Jelly, Lean, and Syrup) Purple Drank is a slang term for a recreational drink combining over the counter cough syrups (such as Robitussin DM, which contains dextromethorphan with codeine) to a soft drink (usually Sprite, Mountain Dew or 7-Up) and a candy – generally Jolly Ranchers. The purplish tint of the drink comes from the dyes in the cough syrup. The candy, soft drink and cough syrup combo creates a quick tension or aggression “cure.”

An extra-strength version of the drink is to use prescription-strength cough syrup containing codeine and promethazine which teens order from online pharmacies or borrow from their medicine cabinets. A University of Texas study found that 8.3% of second school students in Texas took codeine syrup to get high. The drug trend is most popular in the South (particularly Texas and Louisiana) and is celebrated in rap songs. Beware: only 45 percent of teens believe that abusing cough medicine to get high is risky. Talk!

Dangers: In large doses the combination can cause hallucinations as well as drowsiness, an inability to concentrate, slowed physical activity, constipation, nausea, vomiting, and slowed breathing. Just a single drink could be lethal.

Overdosing on prescription syrup is potentially fatal. Alcohol Soaked Tampons The craze is soaking a tampon with your liquor of choice (rum or vodka appear to be most popular), and then inserting it vaginally or rectally. The tampon contains about a shot of alcohol which quickly absorbed into the blood stream to produce a rapid intoxication.

Teens cite a few reasons for the craze: “It’s a fast way to get high,” “The alcohol gets quickly into your system,” “You don’t throw up,” “It doesn’t take as much alcohol to get high,” ”You can’t smell it on your breath,” “It’s easy to carry.” “Butt chugging” is another trend among the male set in which guys insert beer bongs rectally, and then get high on the alcohol. Dangers: Physicians say that the alcohol can burn or damage the vagina or rectum. The craze also can cause alcohol poisoning and have life-threatening consequences. If the teen passes out or loses consciousness the mental health professional may not know the reason (or know where to look), and delay critical treatment. Dexing, Skittling, Robo-Tripping Although Dextromethorphan–or DXM–(the ingredient found in most popular nonprescription cold and cough medicines) can be safely taken in 15 to 30 milligram doses, when taken in significant doses can produce euphoric highs and even hallucinations. And many kids are taking sometimes as much as 25 to 50 times the recommended dose to get that high.

One out of every fourteen kids aged 12 to 17 (more than 2.4 million) admit using cold or cough medicine “fairly recently” to get high. Only 45 percent of teens believe that abusing cough medicine to get high is risky. Check this blog to learn the signs of cold and cough syrup addiction. Cough syrup is readily accessible in stores and online, but most kids say they easiest place to get it is right in their own medicine cabinets at home.

Dangers: The American Medical Association released a warning to parents that when kids take this in large amounts it can become a dangerous, even deadly mind-altering drug, and intake is on the rise.Perhaps because medicines containing DXM are easily accessible in drug stores (or medicine cabinets) and is legal, cold-and cough syrup abuse has soared in recent years.

Vodka Gummy Bears, Boozy Bears, or Gummy Bear Shots Infusing candy such as gummy bears with alcohol is a popular fad. The bears are soaked in vodka or other liquor in small bowls or plastic baggies), and then stored in the refrigerator or freezer. Websites and YouTube videos (which get huge hits) teach kids the process. Teens then carry the gummies in their pockets or in plastic baggies, and then pop them in their mouths whenever convenient- including with friends, at school, at parties and at home. The gummies are cheap, very accessible, easy to hide, and have no odor.

The candy sweetness disguises that harsh liquor taste so it makes it easier for the teen to consume the alcohol.

Dangers: Teen risk-taking increases with the consumption of alcohol including car accidents, drowning, falling, or being in unsafe or uncomfortable situations. Drug and alcohol counselors worry liquor-soaked gummy candy could make it more appealing for teens to take their first taste of alcohol, and the earlier kids have their first drink the higher the risk for substance abuse. Drinking Hand Sanitizer Yes, hand sanitizer, the over-the counter cleanser, and teens are using it to get high. It’s cheap, easily accessible and contains 62 percent ethyl alcohol. Some teens use salt to separate the alcohol from the sanitizer, making a strong concoction that is similar to a shot of hard liquor. (Distillation instructions can be found on the Internet).

Dangers: Teens are showing up in emergency rooms with alcohol poisoning after drinking hand sanitizer. Watch your supply! Alcoholic Whipped Cream This is a new whipped cream product called “whipohol” or “alcoholic whipped cream” that is sold in stores. The cream is infused with 15 percent alcohol. Though the cream may seem tame, what concerns substance abuse counselors is that younger kids are partaking, and the earlier a child has their first drink the more likely the problem for substance abuse later. Dangers: The alcoholic taste is concealed with a cream and sugary sweetness taste so alcohol abuse is easy. Too much or any alcohol, especially on a younger body and brain, can have deadly consequences. Prescription Drug Abuse or Medicine Abuse One of the riskiest teen behaviors is right in your own medicine cabinet. More than 3.1 million teens ages 12 to 17 report abusing prescription drugs which is a particularly popular habit during exam time.

One in ten teens say they have used Vicodin a potentially habit-forming painkiller. OxyContin, stimulants like Ritalin, inhalers (all prescription medications) are also widely used. “Borrowing” prescription drugs from parents or siblings-especially Ritalin-continues to be a hot trend. Watch, count, and, if needed, “lock up” your medications. Also, check your credit card statement since teens admit that prescriptions drugs are easy to purchase online. Pharmacies and drug stores are now locking these medicines up to fight off kid theft.

Dangers: Taking and abusing any prescription drug can have potentially lethal consequences. When mixed with liquor they become a toxic combo. Bath Salts (“Purple Wave,” “Zoom,” “Vanilla Sky,” and “Cloud Nine”) Bath Salts sound lovely and relaxing, but they’re deadly, and already illegal in some states. They are very different from the product you put into a bath – this type packs as much punch as cocaine or methamphetamines and are highly dangerous. The man-made chemicals most often found in bath salts are methylenedioxypyrovalerone, also known as MDPV, mephedrone and methylone.

The products contain clear warnings on their labels that state: “Do not ingest” and “Not for human consumption.” They usually are contained in a small packet and can be purchased over the Internet, in convenient stores (packaged as “vitamins” or “energy boosters,”), head shops, smoke shops or in gas stations.

Beware: Not all packages are marked “Bath Salts.” Related drugs have been sold as plant feeder, insect repellent and stain remover. Teens ingest bath salts by snorting them through the nose, taken orally or smoking the substance. Dangers: Teens say the product gives them “energy” and alertness, but it can also stop their hearts (literally!). Side effects include chest pain or erratic or increased heart rates, hallucinations, confusion, euphoria, nausea, extreme paranoia, and violent behavior, suicidal tendencies. Long-term effects of the drug are unknown. Huffing or Inhalant Abuse Inhalant abuse (called “huffing”) is intentionally inhaling a chemical vapor of some type to attain a “high” or euphoric effect. The primary population of inhalant abusers are kids 12 to 17 years old, and the activity is more common than you may realize.

Hundreds of common household products have the potential to be inhaled. Spray paint, rubber cement, whipped cream canisters, hair sprays, deodorant, hair care products, laughing gas (nitrous oxide), paint thinner, glue, nail polish remover, cleaning sprays (like Dust-Off) felt-tip markers, or even gasoline are just a few examples of products kids have been inhaled. Males and females are equally likely to initiate inhalant use. Huffing is the third most abused substance by teens. The 2000 National Household Survey on Drug Abuse found that 18% of eighth graders admitted having used inhalants (huffing) at least once in their lifetime. Watch for missing or empathy chemical containers left around the house or in the garbage. The abuser often has symptoms such as drunken-like appearance, glassy eyes, chemical smell on clothing or breath, slurred speech, or restlessness, nervousness or mood swings.

Dangers: Huffing effects can be both short and long term depending upon the substance abuse and in what concentrations they are abused. Huffing can cause permanent damage to the brain, heart, liver, kidneys, and brain. Huffing can also lead to cardiac arrest, asphyxiation, aspiration or suffocation from inhalation as well as death. Serious consequences can occur after just the first time of use. Marijuana (MaryJ, Pot, Weed, Reefer, Hay, MaryJane, Grass) Marijuana use among teens is on the rise. The study by the Partnership at Drugfree.org found, sponsored by the MetLife Foundation, found that nearly 1 in 10 lighting up at least 20 or more times a month. Besides the traditional way of rolling weed in paper like a cigarette, putting it into a pipe (a bubbler is a hand-blown glass pipe that with a pouch for water) or a bong and then smoking it, there are other methods teens are get high.

Vaporizing it: The process involves heating up the weed in a vaporizer (a variety of different kinds are available at various price points) to a temperature below its burning point but still high enough to vaporize for inhalation. The Internet provides the directions and YouTube offers the video version which advise teens that “varporizing marijuana is “safer” alternative to smoking marijuana traditionally” and there is no smoke! Eating it:

Not new, but still a hot trend is baking the pot in brownie or cookie batter (or most anything else), and then eating it for a quick high. “Hookahing” it: Teens add marijuana to flavored tobacco, which can disguise the scent, and then smoke the combination (or pot alone) in a hookah.

Dangers: Marijuana is the most commonly abused illegal drug by teens.

Do note the word “illegal” – a record could seriously jeopardize your child’s job prospects or future. The new marijuana is also stronger. There are more than 400 chemicals in marijuana, which stay in the body for a few weeks and the impact of those chemicals on a teen’s body and brain is a big unknown. There are also many synthetic varieties available.
Spice/K2 (Blaze, Bliss, Black Mamba, Bombay Blue, Pulse, Hush, Mystery, Earthquake, Serenity, Red X Dawn Stinger, Zohia, Summit, Genie) Spice or K2 is a type of synthetic marijuana which is a mixture of herbs or plant materials that have been sprayed with artificial chemicals. The chemicals in these products are very potent and content can vary greatly. The goal is to try and create the safe effects of THC, the psychoactive ingredient found in marijuana.

Teens generally smoke this drug so signs to look for include: a strong clove smell, pipes or other drug paraphernalia, or a coffee grinder (which may be yours but has a different smell other than coffee) used to grind the product into a fine powder. Many teens are under the assumption that because Spice is synethetic it is harmless, and nothing could be further from true. K2 or Spice is solid online and in convenience stores and often marketed as incense. Dangers: Physical symptoms of use are troubling: a loss of physical control (including seizures, or a lack of pain response), paranoia, and dysphoria. At this point the long-term effects are unknown. Calls to poison control centers for exposure to this drug have doubled in the past two years.

The Choking Game (Fainting Game, Pass Out Game, Space Monkey, Flatliner, Airplaning, California-Choke, Cloud-Nine, Space-Cowboy, and Black Out) The basic game rule of the Choking Game is “asphyxiation” or for a child to get a desired ‘floaty’, ‘tingling’ or ‘high’ sensation achieved by shutting off oxygen/blood to the brain. It is a lethal activity and glorified in YouTube tapes. Techniques to achieve a high include pressing the thumb or hand tightly on the neck; tying a rope, necktie, belt around the neck; hyperventilating by holding the breath “hard”; or putting a plastic bag over the head until you become unconscious. A secondary ‘high’ is achieved when pressure is released and oxygen/blood returns to the brain.

The Choking Game can be “played” as a dare game in a group and has become popular at slumber parties. Kids take turns “choking” each other or another kid gives a hard bear hug from behind or applies pressure under the child’s heart (usually with the head of the other participant) until the victim passes out. Many kids say they actually become addicted to the feeling repeating the thrill again and again.

Dangers: The “game” has lethal consequences. Brain damage or permanent neurological disabilities due to the lack of oxygen is a possibility and each year is responsible for a large number of juvenile deaths. Stay educated! Keep talking to your child.

Are Rusty Baking Pans Unhealthy?

Are Rusty Baking Pans Unhealthy?

Baking pans are composed of a variety of different metals and coatings that are designed to aid in the baking of the specific baked good of your choice. While rust can potentially harbor bacteria, which leads to ailments such as tetanus, a small amount of rust or discoloration on your pan may not be harmful if you have thoroughly scrubbed and cleaned the pan, removing the majority of rust and discoloration on the interior of the pan.

As iron oxidizes, rust forms on the exterior of the metal Rust can also form on iron's other alloy metals, such as steel. Health Concerns and Coating While rusty iron is not an ideal baking surface, your major concern if you notice rust forming on the inside of your pan should be with regards to the coating on your pan. While many iron and cast iron pans don't have a coating, other, more cheaply made pans and pans with nonstick surfaces contain harmful chemicals that can flake off into your food when rust forms on the inside of your pan. As a result, if any of your pans have a prior coating and rust forming, throw them out immediately.

If not, then the rust that you're dealing with is simple iron rust and can be properly cleaned. Sponsored Links Soy Handmade Copper Cookware for Professional & Home usage www.soy.com.tr Scrub and Sand If you have noticed rust on your iron or steel baking pan, it is possible for you to remove the majority of the external rust using abrasive pads and pumice cleaner. To start, apply cleaner to the part of the pan that you want to clean. Rub the spot firmly and thoroughly with an abrasive pad until the rust begins to flake off. Rinse the pan out to see if there's any rust left. If there's rust left, you will have to sand the pan using wet/dry sandpaper.

Wet the pan before using the sandpaper, applying it firmly and using multiple pieces of sandpaper until you've removed the rust. Seasoning Once you've successfully removed rust from your baking pans, it's essential that you season the pan to ensure that rust won't return. Seasoning prevents metals from oxidizing by preventing moisture and oxygen from getting on the exposed metal. To season your pan, cover it with fat, grease or oil prior to baking to help prevent it from oxidizing.

Once you've cleaned your pan after baking it, reapply a small amount of oil or fat before covering your pan and putting it away. Caution While rusty baking pans can be cleaned and reused, use caution when cooking with a rusty baking pan. If you notice rust that is flaking off on the inside of the pan, don't use it. While rust is a concern for some bakers, another more pressing concern is the type of metal that you use to cook with and if it's leaching into the food while heated. Certain low priced cookware are composed with enamel coatings that chip and wear out, seeping into your food and causing potential health risks. As a result, buying higher quality products will help insure that the coating won't chip off into your food.

INFORMATION FROM BEES

INTRODUCTION

Since the late 1980s Honeybees have been dying off in alarming numbers due to infestation by a tracheal mite which lodges in the thorax of the bee. These are the tracheae that feed oxygen to the flight muscles of the bees.

If one considers the role of pollinators, one can easily get a feel for the consequence of the deaths of massive numbers of honeybees. The information below came from the bees in response to questions asked of a beekeeper about the spiritual significance of the mite dilemma. Usually when I talk with animals the information comes as a direct channeling of information in first person. The information from bees came as a whispering in the right ear.
More of a "telling" of information. Capitalization occurs where the bees indicated emphasis or sacredness.

This information came through Sharon Callahan on February 10, 1998 at 10 pm pst

INFORMATION FROM BEES The bees are playing a crucial part in the re-patterning of the Earth and planetary grids, as well as struggling to hold in place what hey call the "new Pulse" of energy from the Creator.

The pulse is Light, or the Grace of God which the bees indicate actually flows through us in intermittent pulses rather than a static stream of energy. Within the "stuff" of Grace or Divine Light is encoded all of the information needed for all things to move in harmony into the new millennium which we are now approaching. In the life of bees, natural selection, comb shape, {if someone were to study naturally occurring honey comb shapes they would find them changing} speed of vibration of the bees themselves are all vital to the bees ability to "keep up" with instructions from the creator which they receive continuously. These instructions tell the bees how they should proceed to build the vibrational matrix necessary for the ascension of Earth, Nature, Man, Ether, Cosmos - into the next phase of "becoming" or spiritual evolution. The pulsing patterns of Light of which the bees speak is detected by the bees as it enters the astral light. They then draw it into the physical ether/atmosphere.

Natural selection regarding breeding is essential. When free from human intrusion bees of the highest vibration and spiritual advancement (yes, the bees indicate that the level of spiritual vibration among them does vary just as it does in human beings and other creatures) would survive. Only they themselves can determine this because they are in direct contact with the Creator. When left in a natural state only the most evolved bees would breed and survive, thus quickening our (all of creation) evolution into the new higher frequency.

Natural occurring honey carries the new vibrational frequency of love from the Creator as well as a substance that acts upon the DNA structure of individuals acting as a catalyst for spiritual, evolutionary transformation. Substances in the honey contain vibrational information that becomes encoded in the cells of the being partaking of it. This information is then available to be used to enable the individual to access his/her own Divine Blueprint, clearing blockages to awakening that have previously existed. The taking of honey should be considered a Sacrament - a Holy Communion between God and Its creation. Each bee is an emissary of the Divine - an angel or anointed one. Honey from any given locality should be taken as a communion by the animals and human beings in that locality and then distributed sparingly for use in other areas.

Honey has a special usefulness for scientists, philosophers and spiritual truth seekers. It is important for honey from all regions of the world to be widely distributed in small amounts to be used for Sacramental purposes since the flowers from each region contain different vibrational encodements that are received from the pulsing light of the Creator that flows to their particular region of the planet. Each region, and therefore each flower species that grow in each region, respond to the particular matrix/blueprint/morphic field of the particular region and the information that flows therein.

(More on this will be given at a later date.) The virus carried by the parasite infesting the bees is present as a consequence of the negative thought forms generated by human beings, particularly those such as greed, power, manipulation, self interest, insensitivity, cruelty and lack of love. These negative states must be turned toward their opposites: sharing, humility, gratitude and Unconditional Love. In present circumstances the bees are being prevented from evolving to the next level of their work on Earth. This creates a conflict between their soul's desire to assist in evolution as instructed to them by the Creator and the struggle they must wage against human insensitivity, greed and lack of understanding of their Divine Purpose as well as lowered immunity due to the stress incurred as a result of such struggle.

POLLEN AND HONEY CARRY INFORMATION, THEY ARE ENCODED WITH GOD'S DIVINE PLAN "By working mechanically we destroy what Nature has elaborated in such a wonderful way...The bee wants always to remain within itself, to stay within the sphere of its own substance. Every external influence is felt as disturbing, as something to be warded off." Rudolf Steiner, 1923
What is Honey? Honey is formed from modified and concentrated “nectar”, a supersaturated solution of sugars. Water: 13.4-26% moisture Glucose: avg. 30%, causes honey to crystalize Fructose: avg. 40%, increase fructose = increase moisture w/relative humidity Sucrose: ~1.6% slightly acidic.

5 Hidden Health Benefits of Spicy Foods

5 Hidden Health Benefits of Spicy Foods Friday, September 24, 2010

Spicy foods are a bit of a mystery. As an article in the week's New York Times wondered: Why is it that we find such pleasure in pain? I mean, these hot sauce bottles are plastered with words like "death" and "atomic"... and we like them. One theory is that it's simply for the thrill -- like riding a roller coaster or running a marathon. Humans, oddly, find pleasure in things that, on the surface, should be really freaking scary and painful. In these cases, it's mind vs. body, and mind wins.

The other theory is that spicy foods have health benefits, and so our bodies crave them. Some of the most-studied bennies are:

1. Weight Loss: For one, the extra kick of hot sauce or a chopped jalapeno can make even the most bland diet food more palatable, causing you to be more likely to stick with your weight loss plan. In addition, they may jack up your metabolism. Studies show that the main compound in chilies, called capsaicin, has a thermogenic effect and may cause the body to burn bonus calories for 20 minutes post chow-down.

 2. Heart Health: Studies show that cultures that eat the most spicy food have much lower incidence of heart attack and stroke. Potential reasons: Chili peppers can reduce the damaging effects of LDL (bad cholesterol) and capsaicin may fight inflammation, which has been flagged as a risk factor for heart issues.

 3. Cancer Prevention: According to the American Association for Cancer Research, capsaicin has the ability to kill some cancer and leukemic cells. One particular spice, turmeric, found in curry powder and some mustards, may slow the spread of cancer and growth of tumors. "It has the same effects on the body as certain cancer drugs do." says Gregory A. Plotnikoff, M.D., senior consultant for health care innovation at Allina Hospitals and Clinics in Minnesota. Pair it with black pepper to absorb 2,000 percent more turmeric. Fantastic on roasted veggies or kebabs, or in soups.

 4. Lower Blood Pressure: Vitamins A and C strengthen the heart muscle walls, and the heat of the pepper increases blood flow throughout your body. All of this equals a stronger cardiovascular system.

 5. Fewer Blow-Your-Top Moments: Spicy foods boost production of feel-good hormones, such as serotonin. So they may help ease depression and stress. http://www.self.com/health/blogs/healthyself/2010/09/5-healthy-benefits-of-eating-s.html

Positive Thoughts

Positive thoughts are those thoughts which give us and others the experience of our original virtues like peace, love, bliss, happiness, etc.

They enable you to accumulate inner strength and equip you to be constructive.

Positive thoughts are always beneficial in all circumstances, without trapping you in the external appearance of a situation.

Thinking positively does not mean ignoring the reality of your world and living in a fantasy or longing to be another person.

For example, if you were to repeat over and over again, "I am well, am well," when you were ill, this is not what we mean by positive thinking.

Thinking positively involves looking at problems and recognizing reality, but at the same time being able to find solutions without becoming obsessed or confused. This often requires tolerance, patience and common sense. A person who thinks positively is aware of the weaknesses of others, but even then will direct their attention towards their positive characteristics.

Positive thoughts make you happy and as a result your expectations of others decrease. This does not mean that they do not matter to you, but that you no longer demand love, respect, recognition, or even calm, from them, and it makes your relationships that much easier. This is the best way to create long-lasting and harmonious relationships.

When you have inner happiness, you have the strength to accept other people as they are without wanting them to be different. This acceptance produces more peaceful relationships.

With the positive attitude you create, you can offer yourself to other people just the way you are, with your virtues and limitations, without pretense.

Your body also benefits greatly, since when you have a balanced, harmonious mind you are less susceptible to illnesses.

A person who has many useless thoughts will often feel very tired because they are spending their energy in creating thousands of unnecessary and inefficient thoughts.

Your mind is strengthened and healed by being nourished with positive thoughts. A healthy mind is the basis of a balanced personality.

Thank you, and may God bless you richly. Below is the transcript of the talk of Dr. Richard Teo, who was a 40-year-old millionaire and cosmetic surgeon with a stage-4 lung cancer, sharing at a Dental Christian Fellowship Meeting. He would have liked to share this with you too.

HIS BACKGROUND Hi good morning to all of you. My voice is a bit hoarse from the chemotherapy, so please bear with me. I thought I'll just introduce myself. My name is Richard, I’m a friend of Danny’s, who invited me here. I’d just begin to say that I’m a typical product of today’s society. Before this, I was talking about how the media influences us etc. So I’m a typical product of what the media portrays. From young, I’ve always been under the influence and impression that to be happy, is to be successful. And to be successful, is to be wealthy. So I led my life according to this motto.

Coming from a poor average family, back in those days, I was highly competitive, whether in sports, studies, leadership. I wanted it all. I’ve been there, done that. But at the end of the day, it’s still about money. So in my recent last years, I was a trainee in ophthalmology, but I was getting impatient, cos I had friends of mine who were going out into private practise, making tonnes of money. And there I was, stuck in a traineeship. So I said, ‘Enough, it’s getting too long.’

At that time, there was a surge in protégés of aesthetic medicine. I’m sure you’re aware, aesthetic medicine had peaked over the last few years, and I saw good money in there. So much so that I said, ‘Forget about ophthalmology, I’m gonna do aesthetic medicine.’ So that’s what I did. The truth is, nobody makes heroes out of the average GP in the neighbourhood. They don't. They make heroes out of rich celebrities, politicians, rich and famous people. So I wanted to be one of these.

I dived straight into aesthetic medicine. People were not willing to pay when I was doing locum back in those days. Anything more than $30, they would complain that “Wah, this lo kun (doctor) jing qwee (very expensive)”. They made noise and they were not happy. But the same people were willing to pay $10 000 for a liposuction. So I said, ‘Well, let’s stop healing the sick, I’m gonna become a beautician; a medically-trained beautician.’ And that was what I did – liposuction, breast augmentation, eyelid surgeries, you name it, we do it. It was very good money. My clinic, when we started off, waiting time was 1 week; 1 month; became 2 months; became 3 months.

There was so much demand that people were literally queuing up to have aesthetic work done on them. Vain women – easy life! So the clinic grew. I was so overwhelmed, from 1 doctor, I employed 2, then 3, then 4 doctors, and carried on. Nothing is ever enough. I wanted more and more and more. So much so that we set up shop in Indonesia to lure all the Indonesian tai tai’s. We set up shop, set up a team of people there, to get more Indonesian patients to come in. So, things were doing well. I’m there, my time has arrived. Around some time in February last year, I said, ‘OK, I have so much spare cash, it’s time to get my first Ferrari. So there I was, getting ready for the deposit. ‘OK! There comes my first Ferrari!’ I was looking for land, to share with some of my friends. I have a banker friend who makes $5 million a year. So I thought, ‘Come, let’s come together. Let’s buy some land and build our houses.’ I was at my prime, getting ready to enjoy.

At the same time, my friend Danny had a revival. They were going back to church, some of my close friends. They told me, ‘Richard, come, join us, come back to church.’ I have been a Christian for 20 years; I was baptised 20 years ago, but it was because it was fashionable to be a Christian then. All my friends were becoming Christians then. It was fashionable! I wanted to be baptised, so that when I filled in a form, I could put there “Christian” – feels good. In truth, I had never had a bible; I don’t know what the bible is all about. I went to church for a while, after some time, I got tired. I said it’s time to go to NUS, stop going to church. I had a lot more things to pursue in NUS – girls, studies, sports etc. After all, I had achieved all these things without God today, so who needs God? I myself can achieve anything I want. In my arrogance, I told them, “You know what? You go tell your pastor to change your sermon to 2pm. I will consider coming to church.” Such arrogance! And I said 1 statement in addition to that – till date, I don’t know I’ve regretted saying that – I told Danny and my friends,

“If God really wanted me to come back to church, He will give me a sign.”. Lo and behold, 3 weeks later, I was back at church. THE DIAGNOSIS In March 2011, out of the blues – I was still running around, ‘cause I’m a gym freak and I always go to the gym training, running, swimming 6 days a week. I had some backache, and that’s all I had, but it was persistent.

And so I went for an MRI to exclude prolapsed disc. And the day before I had my scan, I was still in the gym, lifting heavy weights, doing my squats. And the next day, they found that half my spine had bone marrow replacement. I said, “Woah, sorry, what’s that?” We had a PET scan the next day, and they diagnosed that I had terminal lung cancer, stage 4B. It had spread to the brain, half the spine, whole of my lungs were filled with tumour, liver, adrenals… I said, “Can’t be, I was just at the gym last night, what’s going on?” I’m sure you know how it feels – though I’m not sure if you know how it feels. One moment I was there at the peak, the next day, this news came and I was totally devastated.

My whole world just turned upside down. I couldn’t accept it. I have a hundred relatives on both sides, my mom and my dad. 100 of them. And not a single one has cancer. To me, in my mind, I have good genes, I’m not supposed to be having this! Some of my relatives are heavy chain smokers. Why am I having lung cancer? I was in denial.

HIS ENCOUNTER WITH GOD So the next day, I was still in a state of denial, still unable to accept what was going on. There I was lying in an operating theatre in a hospital, for a needle biopsy (for histology). There I was, just completed the biopsy, and lying in the operating theatre. The nurses and doctors had left; told me I had to wait for 15 minutes to do a check X-ray to make sure there’s no pneumothorax (a complication). And there I was, lying on the operating table, staring blankly at the ceiling in a cold, quiet operating theatre. Suddenly I just heard an inner voice; it was not like coming from outside. It was inside. This small inner voice that I had never felt before.

And it said very specifically, it said, “This has to happen to you, at your prime, because it’s the only way you can understand.” I said, “Woah, why did that come from?” You know, when you speak to yourself, you’d say, “OK, what time should I leave this place? Where shall I have dinner after this?” You’d speak from a first person point of view. You don’t say, “Where should YOU go after this?” Whereas the voice that came spoke as a third party.

It said, “This has to happen to YOU, at YOUR prime, because this is the only way YOU can understand.” At that time, my emotions just overflowed and I broke down and cried, alone there. And I knew then, subsequently, what it means to understand that why this is the only way. Because I had been so proud of myself, my whole life, I needed nobody else. I was gifted with things that I could do, why do I need anybody else? I was just so full of myself that there was no other way I could have turned back to God. In fact, if I were diagnosed with stage 1 or 2, I would have been looking around busily for the best cardiothoracic surgeon, remove a section of the lobe (do a lobectomy), do preventive chemotherapy…

The chances of it being cured is extremely high. Who needs God? But I had stage 4B. No man can help, only God can. A series of events happened after that. I wasn’t sold after that, because of the inner voice, I became believing, prayers, all that. No I wasn’t. To me, it was just ‘maybe there was a voice; or maybe that was just me talking to myself.’ I didn’t buy the story. What happened next was that I was being prepared for chemotherapy. I started off with a whole brain radiation therapy first; takes about 2 -3 weeks. In the meantime they prepared me for chemotherapy, supplements etc. One of the things they used for chemo was a thing called Zometa. Zometa - they use it to strengthen the bones; once the bone marrow (replacement) is cured of cancer cells, it becomes hollow, so we need Zometa to strengthen the bone to prevent compression fractures.

One of the side effects of Zometa is that it can cause osteonecrosis (bone death) of the jaw, and I had to have my wisdom teeth removed. Years ago, I had my upper wisdom teeth removed, cos it was giving me trouble. The lower ones didn’t give me trouble so I said, “Forget it, just leave it.” So of cause, Danny volunteered to remove it for me. So there I was, lying there in a dental chair, asking myself, suffering all the side effects of radiotherapy, and now I have to go through wisdom tooth surgery. As if I’ve not had enough to suffer! So I asked Danny, “Eh, bro, is there any other way? Can I not go though this?”

He said, “Yes, you can pray.” I said, “What’s there to lose? Ok lah, pray lah!” And so we prayed. And we did an X-ray after that. Everything was all there, all the appliances and everything. And lo and behold, the Xray showed that there was no wisdom teeth in the lower jaw. I know most people have 4 wisdom teeth, maybe some have none, but to be missing one or 2, as I understand – I’m not too sure, as I understand – is not that common. Still I was, “Nah, I don’t care about that.” To me, as long as I didn’t have to take out the tooth, I was happy. At that point, I still wasn’t sold on prayers. Maybe it was just a coincidence – for whatever it’s worth.

I continued meeting my oncologist, asking him, “How long do I have?” I asked him. He said, not more than 6 months. I said, “Even with chemotherapy?” About 3 – 4 months, he said. I couldn’t grasp that. It was difficult to come to terms. And even as I went through radiotherapy, I was struggling everyday, especially when I wake up, hoping that it’s just a nightmare; when I wake up, it’s all over. As I was struggling, day after day, I went into depression, which is the typical denial, depression blah blah blah that you go through. But for 1 reason, I don’t know why, there was this specific day that I was supposed to meet my oncologist. At about 2pm, I felt this sudden surge of peace, comfort, and in fact, a little happiness. It was just overflowing.

For no rhyme or reason, it just came about 2pm, as I was getting ready, dressing up to meet my oncologist. So much so that I whats-apped all my friends that, “Bros, I just feel so good suddenly! I don’t know why, it just came!” And it was only days, or was it weeks after, that Danny revealed to me that he had fasted for 2 days for me, and he was bargaining with God, and fasted for 2 days, and he ended his fast at that exact same point, about 2pm thereabouts, that this surge of sensation came to me for no rhyme or reason. And I didn’t know that he was fasting for me. And when he ended the fast, I felt that sensation! Whoa, things were getting a bit too coincidental. I was starting to buy a bit of the story, but still I wasn’t sold. As days passed by, I completed my radiotherapy, about 2 weeks plus. Getting ready for chemo, so they let me rest for a few days. See, the mortality rate of lung cancer : Lung cancer has the highest mortality rate.

If you add up breast, colorectal (colon) cancer, and prostate cancer (the top few cancers in Singapore for men and women), if you add up the mortality rate of these 3, it still doesn’t add up to lung cancer. Simply because, you understand, you can remove the prostate, the colon, the breast, but you cannot remove your lungs. But there’s about 10% of lung cancer patients who do pretty well for some reasons, because they have this specific mutation; we call it the EGFR mutation. And it happens, only 90% of the time, in Asian ladies who never smoked in their lives.

Me, first of all, I’m male. 2ndly, I’m a social smoker. I take one a day after dinner; weekends, when my friends offer me, I take it as well. I’m a light smoker, not a social smoker. But still, my oncologist was still not hopeful for me to have this mutation. The chances of it happening for me was maybe 3-4% for me to get it. That’s why I was being primed to go for chemo. But through all the intense prayers, friends like Danny, people that I don’t even know, it turned out that, during my waiting for chemo, the results came back that I was EGFR positive. I was like, “Woah, good news!” Cos now I don’t have to undergo chemo at that time, because there’s this oral tablet that you can use to control this disease. Just to share with you some idea – this is a CT scan – thorax – of my lungs, before treatment.

AFTER BEFORE Every single dot there is a tumour. You can see all the mets (metastasis) there. This is just one single plane. Literally I had it in both lungs, and I had literally tens of thousands of tumour. That’s why the oncologist told me, even with chemo, at most 3-4 months. But because of this mutation, they have this oral medication. This is what happened after 2 months of treatment. As you can see over here; this is what God can do. And that’s why I’m still here having this opportunity to share with you. As you can see over here, the difference between before and after treatment. At that point, I said, “Well, it’s to be expected, isn’t it? The medicine is good.” I’m still not buying the story. Well, the guys prayed for me and the tumour markers started to come down. 90% of the tumours were wiped out, and the tumour markers came down to more than 90% over the next few months. But still, you know, once you have the clinical knowledge, you know the statistics.

One year survival, two year survival; having all this knowledge is not a good thing. Cos you live with the knowledge that even with all this, the cancer cells are so unstable, they keep mutating. They will overcome and become resistant to the drugs, and eventually you’re gonna run out of medication. So living with this knowledge is a huge mental struggle, a huge mental torture. Cancer is not just about a physical struggle, it’s a huge mental torture. How do you live with no hope? How do you live with not being able to plan for the next few years? The oncologist tells you to bear with it for the next 1 – 2 months. So it’s a lot of struggles as I went through: March, then April. April was my lowest point, in deep depression, struggling even as I was recovering. HIS ACCEPTANCE & PEACE And one of those days, I was there in bed, struggling in the afternoon, asking God, “Why? Why do I have to go through this suffering? Why do I have to endure this hardship, this struggle? Why me?” As I fell asleep, in my dreamy state, a vision just came, that says Hebrews 12:7-8. Now mind you, at this time, I had not read the bible. I have no clue what’s Hebrews, I don’t even know how many chapters there are. Totally clueless. But it says Hebrews 12:7-8, very specifically. I didn’t think too much of it. I just continued sleeping.

Then I woke up, and I said, “What’s there to lose? I’d just check it out lah!” Danny had bought me a bible; it’s still quite new. I said, “It’s ok, just try.” So I flipped to the Old Testament. Hebrews to me sounds like something ancient, so it should be in the Old Testament right? So I flipped through the Old Testament. No Hebrews there. I was so disappointed.

Then I said, “Maybe New Testament, let’s have a look!”. WOW – New Testament, there’s Hebrew’s!! It says Hebrews 12:7-8. It says, “Endure hardship as discipline as God is treating you as His children.” I said, “WAH!! Where did that come from?” I was getting goose pimples all over my body. I said, “This can’t be, right?” I mean, what’s the chance of somebody, who has never read the bible, to have a vision of a chapter of a specific verse, that answers my question directly?

I think God called to me directly as I was there sleeping, struggling with it, asking God, “Why do I have to suffer? Why do I have to suffer this?” And God says “Endure hardship as discipline as God is treating you as His child.” At this point, the chance of that happening is even lesser than my EGFR being positive. There’s just no way; there’s so many millions of thousands of verses in the bible, how can I just conjure up something like that? So at that point, I was sold I said, “YOU WIN! YOU WIN!!”

Ok , I was convinced. And so from that day onwards, I started believing in my God. And the last time I heard that inner voice was the end of April. And that inner voice, same thing, in the afternoon, as I was sleeping (this time I wasn’t struggling, just going to sleep). In a dreamy state I just heard Him say, “Help others in hardship.” It was more like a command, rather than a statement. And that’s when I embarked on this journey, helping others in hardship. And I realised that hardship is not just about being poor. In fact, I think a lot of poor people are probably happier than a lot of us here. They are so easily contented with whatever they have, they’re probably pretty happy. Hardship can happen to rich people; it can be physical hardship, mental hardship, social, etc. And also over the last few months, I started to understand what this true joy is about. In the past, I substituted true joy with the pursuing of wealth. I thought true joy is about pursuing wealth. Why? Cos let me put it to you this way, in my death bed, I found no joy whatsoever in whatever objects I had – my Ferrari, thinking of the land I was going to buy to build my bungalow etc, having a successful business. It brought me ZERO comfort, ZERO joy, nothing at all. Do you think I can hold onto this piece of metal and it’s going to give true joy? Nah, it’s not going to happen. True joy comes from interaction with other people. And at a lot of times, it is a short term pride, the past. When you pursue your wealth, Chinese New Year is the best time to do it. Drive my Ferrari, show off to my relatives, show off to my friends, do my rounds, and then you thought that was true joy? You really think that those guys who sold you your Ferrari, they share their joy with you?

And your relatives, wow, they share this joy with you? In truth, what you have done is just to illicit envy, jealousy, and even hatred. They are not sharing the joy with you, and what I have is that short-term pride that wow, I have something you don’t have! And I thought that was joy! So what we have is basically a short-term pride at the expense of somebody else. And that wasn’t true joy. And I found no joy at all on my deathbed, thinking of my Ferrari – to hold on to it, sayang it?!? True joy I discovered comes from interaction. Over the last few months I was so down. Interaction with my loved ones, my friends, my brothers in Christ, my sisters in Christ, and only then was I able to be motivated, able to be uplifted. To share your sorrow, to share your happiness – that’s true joy. And you know what makes you smile?

True joy comes from helping others in hardship, and because I’ve gone through this, I know what hardship entails. In fact, there’re some cancer patients who tell me a lot of times, people come up to them and tell them, “Stay positive. Stay positive.” Yah, right. You come in my shoes and you try to stay positive! You don’t know what you’re talking about! But I have the licence. So I’ve been going out to meet other fellow cancer patients, to share with them, encourage them. And I know, because I’ve been through it, and it’s easier for me to talk to them. And most importantly, I think true joy comes from knowing God. Not knowing about God – I mean, you can read the bible and know about God – but knowing God personally; getting a relationship with God. I think that’s the most important. That’s what I’ve learnt. So if I were to sum it up, I’d say that the earlier we sort out the priorities in our lives, the better it is. Don’t be like me – I had no other way. I had to learn it through the hard way. I had to come back to God to thank Him for this opportunity because I’ve had 3 major accidents in my past – car accidents.

You know, these sports car accidents – I was always speeding , but somehow I always came out alive, even with the car almost being overturned. And I wouldn’t have had a chance. Who knows, I don’t know where else I’d be going to! Even though I was baptised it was just a show, but the fact that this has happened, it gave me a chance to come back to God. Few things I’d learnt though: 1. Trust in the Lord your God with all your heart – this is so important. 2. Is to love and serve others, not just ourselves. There is nothing wrong with being rich or wealthy. I think it’s absolutely alright, cos God has blessed. So many people are blessed with good wealth, but the trouble is I think a lot of us can’t handle it. The more we have, the more we want. I’ve gone through it, the deeper the hole we dig, the more we get sucked into it, so much so that we worship wealth and lose focus. Instead of worshipping God, we worship wealth. It’s just a human instinct. It’s just so difficult to get out of it.

We are all professionals, and when we go into private practise, we start to build up our wealth – inevitably. So my thought are, when you start to build up wealth and when the opportunity comes, do remember that all these things don’t belong to us. We don’t really own it nor have rights to this wealth. It’s actually God’s gift to us. Remember that it’s more important to further His Kingdom rather than to further ourselves. Anyway I think that I’ve gone through it, and I know that wealth without God is empty. It is more important that you fill up the wealth, as you build it up subsequently, as professionals and all, you need to fill it up with the wealth of God. I think that’s about it. It’s good to share. Thanks. http://www.heavenaddress.com/Dr-Richard-Teo-Keng-Siang/424153/379719/content (transcript of his testimony) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umLkfADe17s

What Is Rubella? What Are German Measles? What Causes Rubella Or German Measles?

What Is Rubella? What Are German Measles? What Causes Rubella Or German Measles? Rubella, also known as German measles, is an infectious disease caused by the rubella virus. The virus passes from person-to-person via droplets in the air expelled when infected people cough or sneeze - the virus may also be present in the urine, feces and on the skin. The hallmark symptoms of rubella are an elevated body temperature and a pink rash. Although rubella can infect people of all ages, it most commonly affects young children. If a pregnant woman becomes infected with Rubella there is a serious risk of birth defects in the unborn baby. If the pregnant mother is infected within the first 20 weeks of pregnancy the child may be born with congenital rubella syndrome, which consists of a range of serious incurable illnesses. About one-fifth of infected pregnant women will miscarry. The name "rubella" comes from the Latin word rubella meaning "little red". As the disease was first described by German doctors in the mid-eighteenth century, it is also known as German measles. Rubella is usually mild and frequently passes unnoticed. The disease can last from one to three days. Children usually recover faster than adults. What are the signs and symptoms of rubella? A symptom is something the patient senses and describes, while a sign is something other people, such as the doctor notice. For example, drowsiness may be a symptom while dilated pupils may be a sign. Rubella's incubation period is from 14 to 21 days. Some people may be infected and never know it. Patients typically have flu-like symptoms. The main symptom is a rash - pink or light red - on the face, which then spreads to the chest, stomach, back, arms and legs. When the rash reaches other parts of the body it usually fades from the face. Within about three days the rash goes away with no staining or peeling of the skin. After it has cleared up the skin may shed very small flakes where the rash was. While the rash is present there may be itching. Patients may also have a slight fever and swollen glands (which may persist for a week), headache, conjunctivitis and joint pains. The older the patient is the more severe symptoms tend to be. A significant number of older girls and adult women may have arthritic type symptoms. Infected people are contagious about one week before the rash appears and about one week after it has cleared up. What causes rubella? Rubella is caused by an extremely infectious virus that is transmitted from person-to-person in droplets in the air. When an infected person sneezes or coughs, those nearby are at risk of becoming infected. It is also possible to infect another person if they come into contact with the saliva of an infected person. The virus is capable of crossing the placenta and infecting the unborn child (feuts) where it stops cells from developing or destroys them. Diagnosis of rubella The National health Service (NHS), UK instructs people who suspect somebody in the household may have rubella to call their doctor - not to visit, as there is a risk others in the clinic or GP practice, including pregnant women, may become infected. Since the rubella rash is similar in appearance to irritations caused by other viral infections, a GP will confirm the diagnosis by doing a virus culture or a blood test. The presence of different types of rubella antibodies will corroborate the diagnosis. By law, doctors have to notify the local authority of all suspected rubella cases. The child's school or nursery should be told immediately. IgM (rubella virus specific) antibodies are found in individuals who have been recently infected. However, these antibodies may persist for a long time, sometimes for over a year. Therefore, a positive blood test result needs to be interpreted with caution. Treatment options for rubella In the vast majority of cases rubella infection signs and symptoms will resolve within a week or two. Patients should stay at home and avoid contact with other people, especially pregnant women. The NHS advises people to stay away from work/school for at least five days. If there is any fever or aches an OTC (over-the-counter), such as Tylenol (paracetamol) or ibuprofen may help. Do not give aspirin to children under the age of 16 years. To avoid dehydration it is important to consume plenty of liquids, preferably water. Prevention of rubella Immunization with the MMR vaccine is the most effective way to protect against rubella. It is a combined vaccine that protects children against all three conditions - measles, mumps and rubella. It contains the safest and most effective form of each vaccine. This is usually given to children between 12 and 15 months followed by a booster injection before entering school (usually between three to five years of age). Children who are too young to have had the MMR vaccine and are exposed to the virus may be given an injection of immunoglobulin antibodies which provide short-term but immediate protection against the disease. As a pregnant mother passes on her own immunity to her baby, the baby is protected at least during his/her first six months of life. Despite fears of an association between the MMR vaccine and autism risk, all studies over the last decade have shown that there is no link. Complications of rubella Complications, if they do occur, tend to be mild and may include diarrhea, vomiting, otitis media (inner ear infection), and convulsions (if there is a fever). Much more rarely, there is a risk of encephalitis, croup, bronchitis, and pneumonia. The most important complication is if a pregnant woman becomes infected, especially during the first 11 weeks of her pregnancy (the danger is present throughout pregnancy). Her offspring may suffer from heart defects, stunted growth, hearing problems, organ defects, eye problems (cataracts) and cognitive defects. Fungal Rash on Buttocks

Fungal Rash on Buttocks
The problem of fungal rash on buttocks is more prevalent in people who are on long-term use of antibiotics, or suffer from obesity or diabetes. Fungal rash can also affect areas such as the thighs or groin. Here we discuss the causes of fungal rash and their appropriate treatment measures in brief. Fungal rash on buttocks generally occurs uniformly on both the cheeks, and eventually it starts getting concentrated on the bottom of each cheek and within the folds. This rash is also common in people who are incontinent, perspire heavily, have a sedentary lifestyle, or are using skin care products that are skin-irritants.

What Causes the Rash? Fungal rash on buttocks could be commonly caused by fungal infections such as jock itch, ringworm, and yeast infection. The following describes the symptoms and treatment options for each of these types of infections. Jock Itch This infection is caused by the fungus called tinea. It is more common during summer months, or in warm, wet climates. Apart from buttocks, it also affects areas such as the inner thighs, and genitals. Symptoms include itching and reddening of the skin of these areas, apart from feeling a burning sensation. The skin at the groin area may start flaking, or peeling.

Treatment: Over-the-counter antifungal topical medications are good enough to take care of jock itch. Common OTC medications include allylaminesm, and azoles. Sometimes, such medications are not good enough, and the affected person may require to use prescription-strength topical or oral antifungals. Econazole and oxiconazole are topical medications, while itraconazole (Sporanox), and fluconazole (Diflucan) are the oral ones.

Ringworm This fungal infection is caused by microorganisms that live on the outer skin of the body as parasites. Its characteristic symptom, which also gets it its name, is a circular rash with a red and inflamed border, surrounding a normal spot of skin in the middle. It is also possible to develop the infection without this circular rash. Apart from affecting the buttocks, the infection may occur over the surface of the elbows, knees, scalp, area around the ears and that of the navel. Treatment: If the infection has affected a large area, usually, OTC medications do not help. So medications prescribed by the doctor must be considered. Common topical medication include butenafine (mentax) ciclopirox (loprox), and econazole to name a few. And oral ones include fluconazole (diflucan), itraconazole (sporanox), etc.

Yeast Infections Caused by the yeast-like fungi candida, yeast infections are a common skin problem with many people. Although the infection may affect any skin surface, more commonly it is found in the armpits, and groin which makes the buttocks a vulnerable area.

Symptoms apart from the red, and itchy rash on the buttocks and other areas, others include pimple-like bumps and burning sensation. Treatment: Similar to the treatment for problems mentioned above, even in this case, antifungal medications are used. Points to Remember

•Before applying any creams or lotions, it is advisable to clean the affected area gently and thoroughly.

•Care should be taken that the area is not rubbed.

•Pat the skin dry with a clean and dry towel. •As the rash starts to heal, the skin tends to become dry and flaky. So to keep it hydrated and moist, you can apply moisturizers (creams, lotions).

•Do not forget to wash your hands, and wear gloves before treating the rash, and wash them again once you are done with it.

Prevention # Ailments such as fungal rash can be easily prevented. Moist and warm environment favor germs causing such problems. And what most people fail to do is to dry their skin well after having a bath or a shower. The vulnerability to contract the infection increases during summer months, when perspiration is more. So, one has to ensure to use every inch of a towel to dry himself/herself after bathing. Avoid using heavily perfumed bathing soaps. Such products usually irritate the skin, and worsen fungal rash. For those who use incontinence briefs, must avoid using ones that come with plastic liners. These products retain moisture and prevent the affected area from drying out. Leaving the briefs open would promote air circulation and help in healing the rash by keeping it dry.

 # Try to avoid wearing tight-fitting clothes, and especially tight-fitting briefs. It is advisable to wear loose-fitting briefs which are made of cotton fabric instead of nylon or polyester. Always wear clean and fresh clothes to prevent the risk of infection. However, it is not recommended to avoid wearing briefs that are too loose. Such briefs may cause friction between the skin from rubbing, and this may worsen the condition further.

# If the rash has occurred within the skin folds, then prevent the moisture from accumulating in the area, by placing a soft cloth or a cotton pad between the folds. This will help in keeping the skin dry and keep the infection from spreading further. Talcum powder could also be used in such areas to keep them dry. Fungal rash tends to recur even after it has healed completely. This can be prevented by using a barrier cream which contains petrolatum, dimethicone and zinc oxide. Keeping the body well-hydrated by increasing fluid-intake is also one of the effective ways for preventing fungal infection and its symptoms.
